After over 10 days of strong and intense BraxtonHicks-at one point I even thoughtdaddy Victor was not going to make it there!- we went for a scan...
It was a bit worrying as the baby had very little liquid left to swim into and the doppler was not as clear as it should have been. This was on Saturday 20th May. Abuelo Gerardo hence decided to bring me to the hospital on Monday 22nd. To everyone's surprise I had contractions every 4-5 minutes and a sign of dilatation, but no pain and no sign of an immediate delivery. After hours of discussions as to whether I should stay under observation there or go home, they let me go back to Alicante. There I had a good lunch, a relaxing siesta and a nice walk at the seaside with my parents. In the evening we went back to Elda for a monitor and the contractions had got stronger & more painful...no other choice then but to go and spend the night at the hospital. On the way there we stopped at Telepizza as Victor and his daddy wanted to have some dinner to take away...and I think that seemed to me the longest wait EVER! In 10 minutes I had 3 strong contractions that made me doubt of the utility of my yoga relaxation and breathing techniques!
Once at the hospital everything was very quick...we got there at 11.00 pm and Victoria was out by 1.44 am! As I got there they broke my waters, gave me an injection of muscle relaxant and stimulated me with oxytocin. I refused the epidural, although in the last 1/2 hour I was prepared to be 'epiduralized' 100 times so unbearable was the pain!
In all that I really enjoyed the pushing stage, I felt I could DO something with each contraction, not just suffer it in distress!
And with many pushes and Silberio's elbow; with Victor's and Gerardo's help and MariaDolores and Gloria's encouragments she was finally out! Pink like a peach, smooth like oil, sweet as anything. They placed her on top of my belly, she looked at me and SCREAMED!!!
